A Little History, Some Pony Time, A Little Fun Run -- It's May in Lethbridge - Blog

The birds are out and about, why aren’t you? If you haven’t yet visited your Lethbridge RV Dealer to check out their new arrivals and get some vacation ideas, it’s time. Meanwhile, consider taking part in some of Lethbridge’s special May events.

Historic Lethbridge Festival – May 3 to 11

Celebrate the decade of rainbow coloured Volkswagen buses, of equally colourful clothing and waist length hair for both guys and gals. Yes, it’s the 1960s brought to life as the theme of this year’s Historic Lethbridge Festival. Visit Lethbridge Public Library at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 and indulge in TV shows from that era, including Star Trek and Get Smart. On Monday, May 6 that same library is the setting for an eye-popping fashion show and concert. Fast forward to Wednesday, May 8 and celebrate the Rolling Stones.

On Saturday, May 11 check out the 60s Antique Car Show & Shine for a nostalgic look at the rides of the day. City Hall’s parking lot will be filled with vintage Fords, Chevys and other makes spit polished and ready for view.

More history awaits on the streets of Lethbridge. Between May 3 and 11 special signs will be posted around town. Each sign gives a historic fact about the location. The only way to find them is to take a walk around the city. Signs are changed during the festival's run, so you never know where an “On This Spot” sign will appear.

Rocky Mountain Turf Club Opens May 4

May brings the ponies back to the Rocky Mountain Turf Club, located just east of Henderson Lake off of S Parkside Drive. First races are on May 4 with a 1 p.m. post time. Celebrate Kentucky Derby Day at the track. Admission is free. Try your luck at the onsite casino, Bullys or enjoy a meal at the RMTC Grand Stand. Racing continues weekends throughout May and June and then from the end of August through mid-October. Times and schedules vary. If you’re bringing your camper or motorhome, the Bridgeview RV Resort is a ten-minute drive northwest of the track, off Route 3.
